View Full Version : 87 4kQ mis-firing cdunlap29 07-02-2001, 07:05 PM AHH...Help...at high RPM's under load it starts to jump as if it was mis-firing....any ideas?? Evilclown 07-02-2001, 09:18 PM Especially the one in the tank, that just happened to me, and it turned out to be the in-tank transfer pump. This, unfortunately, was after I had put two external pumps on it because the bad xfer pump killed them, but that's what it was. Disconnect power to the external pump and turn the key to 'on'. You should hear a very quiet fuel pump. If you don't, that's your problem. MikTip 07-03-2001, 02:51 AM What make and model of Audi are you refering to? 4 cylinder? MikTip 07-03-2001, 02:54 AM The fuel pump relay cuts the fuel pump near the engines redline. Often people install the wrong fuel pump relay, and it cuts fuel too early. Or it gets redlined too often and becomes hyper-sensative. cdunlap29 07-03-2001, 11:52 AM 5cyl and it doesn't always do it...I am thinking a bad plug connector Evilclown 07-03-2001, 02:57 PM I just assumed that since the 4k is also CIS that it had two. I'd never looked into mine that deeply since I've never had a problem with the 4k. My bad. Maybe their gas tanks are designed differently, and the Audis don't need the transfer pump to feed the main pump. Who knows, that's just a shot in the dark.
