I recently acquired a lovely problem of having my idle instantaneously drop from 800 rpm to 0 and then instantameously rise to 800 again! This happens when the engine is cold or up to normal operating temperature. This can happen 2,3 times a day. I have a '97 2.8MQ.
I have searched the archives and it sounds like a bad idle stablizer valve.
Does anyone know for sure if this valve is the cure for this problem. I want to make sure my dealer has the correct part before I make the 1 hour drive to have this fixed.
Thanks
Bob P.

What are you doing to that poor car of yours? :-) I would definately agree that sounds like the idle stabilizer valve. My 90Q went through a stage where it did that about 3 years ago (55K miles or so), but only when cold. I never did get around to having it checked out, but then it mysteriously went away about two years ago. I would certainly recommend talking to the dealer about this, and maybe even calling an independant or two to see if they think that's what is going on.
Charles
PS: Did you get those new tires yet? :-)
