I have a 98 Audi A4 1.8TQ. It came with the sports
package which includes 16" wheels. I want to
"minus size" for my snow tires, and drop down to
a 15" wheel for winter. Will 15" wheels fit my
Quattro, or will 15" wheels only fit the non-Quattro
variety of A4? (I noticed that TireRack.com only sells
the 16" wheels and larger for the Quattro, but that they
do offer 15" wheels for the non-Quattro 1.8T A4.)
I really want to use 15" wheels for winter, but not
if they won't fit my car.

I would be very curious to learn how the 15" wheels handle. I like the 16s, but they can be loud out on the highway. 90 mph feels very fast. 15" might quiet things down a bit.

None of the '96 A4's (V6 only that year) had 15" rims in the U.S. The 15" alloys came standard on the 1997 A4 1.8T's without the Sport package. The newer 1.8T "base" 15" rims look a bit nicer (IMHO) than the 97's....and are probably easier to find.

Every A4 in US has been compatible with 15" rims. I had 15" steel rims on my '96 A4Q 2.8 12v and on my '98 A4Q 2.8 30v. Both had come with 16" alloys, and I downsized both to 15" for winter tires.
There are lots of alloys available in 15" that fit, factory and aftermarket. Any 15" wheel that fits any model of A4 will fit any other A4, quattro or FWD.

Bought 15" take-offs from Ronal. Give 'em a call.

Oh, and yes 15" wheels will fit, I've got a set of steel takeoffs from Tire Rack that cost me $26 each. I use them for autocrossing, but they're perfect for snows too.

The current Audis - A4/S4/A6 etc. all have 5 bolt wheels.
I'm pretty sure the older 90 series had 4 bolt wheels. I had '90 and '91 Coupe Quattro's and a '94 90Q, and they all had the same bolt pattern. What the older 100's had, I don't know.
But I'm sure Audi has kept the same 5 bolt pattern for years. So if the wheels you're talking about are 5 bolt, they should work OK. The rims might be 1/2" narrower than the present wheels, but that won't hurt anything if you're talking about using them for winter wheels. If they were 4 bolt wheels then obviously they won't work.

15 in steel wheels and 195-65-15 Michelin MXV4s from my 99 Passat. Took them off at 600 miles when I upgraded to the seven spoke A4 sport wheels/Dunlop SP8000Es. Excellant condition. I don't know how ugly you want your car to look in the winter, but its definetly a cheap option. E-mail me if anyone is interested. Cheap, or as they say in Mexico "almost free today, Senor".
