The sunroof on my 1998.5 A4 has started to rattle badly at low speeds on bumpy roads. The problem is OK at high speed (air pressure holding it down?). Searched Archives and found nothing. Dealer says this is "normal". Any ideas? //Steve

I don't think it's "normal". I had a 96 A4 for just over 3 years and never had any rattles from the sunroof. I just got an 00 S4 and found the sunroof rattling very badly, especially in the tilted position. The dealer partially lowered the headliner and put in some insulation/felt around everything that's not supposed to move, and the problem is 95% fixed. I'm still getting an occasional squeak, and the dealer says it's a couple of the moving pieces in the frame that are rubbing, and they think it'll get better as the parts wear in. I hope so, but as long as it doesn't get any worse it's good enough now I think I can live with it.

Assuming you are still under warranty, I recommend you keep after the dealer. Get AoA involved if necessary. My dealer has been great about putting in a lot of time tracking this down and fixing it.

The sunroof on my 1999.5 A4 rattles occassionally when tilted open or closed. I brought it to the attention of the service tech, but they didn't find anything out of the ordinary. I think I will have them scrutinize the problem more closely during my next scheduled service.

ONLY after closing the sunroof from the vent position. It never does that when closed from the open position. Whenever I hear that squeak, I have to open the sunroof, either partially or completely, and re-close it to get a good seal.
