My coupe quattro had a carbon fiber driive shaft also. I read this was for crash protection. The carbon fiber would shatter instead going up through the floorboard of the car like a steel shaft.

Speaking of carbon fiber, my wife is a quality assurance engineer with the largest carbon fiber manufacturer in the world (they make it primarily to sell to Boeing for the 777), and she saw pictures of an Audi with carbon fiber dash trim, and thought it was cool. I told her to try and find out if her company makes it and smuggle me some... He he he... Can a person buy the carbon fiber dash trim kit somewhere?
