I am installing a VDO oil pressure gauge and have the VDO sending unit with the "warning contact" to connect the stock warning light. I have it all installed and the gauge works great.

However, at about 1800 rpm I get the oil warning light and tone. Apparently, there are two oil pressure sending units that are "compared" when a certain rpm is reached. One is at the oil filter/cooler and the other is in the head. This information is from the VDO support guy.

Has anyone worked around this?

Thanks,

I also installed the VDO gauge, and still have to install the sender at the oil filter/cooler. What sender P/N did you get? Did you need an adapter to install it where the existing pressure switch was. I have the A4 schematics, and will look into the configuration of the dynamic oil pressure monitoring system. I think your problem can be overcome by using a tee adapter, so you can retain the stock pressure switch, and the new VDO sender. The idiot light switch terminal on the VDO sender would not be used. I think the stock pressure switch at the cooler closes the contact at a high pressure (15PSI), which is monitored above 1800 RPM. I think the pressure switch on the head is the conventional low pressure switch (5PSI), which opens the contact above 5PSI, and is monitored below 1800 RPM. Like I said, let me check my schematic, and I can verify this. Will post answer within a day.

I saw your earlier post, maybe your new lug was not contact, bad crimp or solder joint?

The part number for my sender is 360 006. I paid 29.xx at a local parts shop. It is the 80psi one with a 7psi warning contact. I have it installed at the cooler. I now have a T pipe as well, but space is limited.

I wonder if I can replace the low pressure sensor in the head with the VDO sensor. I would prefer not to create more oil piping if I can avoid it. But I cannot seem to find the second sender. When you get a chance, can you check your schematic and post the other sensor's location?

Thanks,
Rich

For Tony or anyone reading this far down the forum, my oil pressure gauge install is done and working.

I had to install a t-pipe to add the new VDO sending unit in addition to the existing one(s). It was not an easy fit, but all is installed well at this point.

Now that useless box in the 99 dash is gone, the switches are moved to the passenger side and the driver side has turbo boost and oil pressure gauges. The VDO vision gauges with the red condom match perfectly. I'm quite happy.

I hope someone is helped by this.

It's just a brass fitting to carry a sender in the end and another off the side. It wasn't a perfect fit but it works and doesn't seem to leak at all. The part # is 240-850.
