The 77-83 5000 Bentley repair manual is a lot cheaper and more readily available then the 84-88. So I am wondering, how different are these two manuals? Was the 77-83 5000 drastically different from the 84-88 models? Would the 77-83 manual be useful for me when I am working on my 86 5000s, or should I really splash out and get the correct book? The price difference seems to be at least $100!
Thanks.

IIRC alot changed from 1977 to 1988! The Bentley is well worth the money though.

I got a used 5000S, 5000CS Bently Manual for 84-88 for 50 bucks. I had about 4 or 5 offers all for around 50, so i would post on the Audifans Marketplace wanted page, thatd be the way to go.

The Type 43 manual is 1 book, and the Type 44 is 2 books. Both types have 5 cylinder engines, but there's little similarity between them when troubleshooting - the Type 44 is waaaay more complex - more sensors, quattro, etc. Get the right set of books.
Cheers!

It's better than nothing and has some decent coverage of the car.
Under $15 at any Autozone, etc...
