Did the core yesterday- went pretty well- the hardest part for me was 1. getting that box back together so all the flap tabs lined up in their little holes (took 45 minutes!) 2. getting the box to set correctly once I replaced it in the car- had some trouble lining up the big elbow vents to the servos & especially replacing the rubber duct that provides air to the back seat. All said & done- 5 hours labor- not including waiting for the silicone to dry. Never could have done it without the advice of people here! Now onto my next issue...

When I drive with my headlights on, after the car warms up, I get the two turn signals staying lit as well as the highbeam light. Also, and this most annoying, my speedometer drops about 10 mph below actual speed. I know on Fords that the signal lights staying on is indicitive of a bad turn signal stalk- but, on the Audi, I can "tap" the dash and everything returns to normal, except for this morning, when the tap didn't respond. I think I read in here about a lighting control box of some sort in there that might be going bad- this would make sense to me if I've got an electronic speedo- the exttra juice being diverted to my turn sigs & high beam light dropping the speedo. Also, when I turn my R sig on the left arrow flashes, and vice versa. With the lights off, everything works just dandy. Anybody?

The link is to a fix for your symptoms on a 1991 200q20v. You don't say what your model/year is, so this may or may not apply, but I'd bet that even if it's an earlier 200 the cause is similar.

200 instrument cluster ground failure

i had the same problem and it was due to faulty ground from IC. i solved it by running a new body ground line using bell wire to the negative pin of the digital clock on the IC.

Any pictures of where this elusive negative pin is? A page for reference in the Bentley? And what is bell wire.

TIA

the clock pins are evident in the center when you disassemble the IC and +/- are marked on mine(sorry, but i do not have a pic). bell wire is the solid core small gauge wire used in telephone wall cords (i picked one up at the dollar store). hope this helps

right where the circuit board is so narrow. I tried doing some soldering, got the speedo, tach, & clock working, but the autocheck & idiot lights never worked in the first. I bought this second one from Force 5 about two months ago, only has a 30 day warranty. I'll have to live with this for a little while- I had that 1st IC in and out more times than I can could messing with it- not going to start up with this one. Maybe it will just be my daytime car? This Audi is draining my will and my wallet!
