then get into the mods, safety first, hows the suspension, brakes etc.

Use this site as GOOD starting point on trouble shooting as well as answers for running higher boost and also search this forum's archive because it has been covered here alot over the last 5+ years. initally when me and my uncle looked the car over i was hesitant, we couldent get it running until a couple shots of starting fluid had been sprayed into the intake tube, afte we traced the problem to a clogged fuel pump. this has mostlikely been the result of the way the car had been sitting for about a year dormant with stale gass, after a can of sea foam and lots of carb cleaner we managed to get the stock pump to free up, with one turn of the key the car started right up, after about ten mintes all the lifter noise had calmed and the motor ran beautifully with no knocking or pinging on a rough mixture of stale gas, sea foam, and a gallon of fresh gass, the next day upon starting we observed absolutely no smoke out of the exhaust of any color, we also noticed lots of information about the previous owner in the car including a religious ribbon hung on the rear view mirror, perfect gas mileage logs, the owners manual and many other usefull things.
as far as the suspension it holds the road quite smoothly especially for a car about 20 years old i have plans of upgrading it before i leave florida just for a little more enjoyment on the long drive home florida to massachusetts. other than that the brakes stop like the first day the shop we bought it off of is a vw and audi specialist shop who also was amazed at what good running condition it was in, so in the next weed i will be changing all oil differential fluids and belts and possibly a couple gaskets to make sure it will be ok on the long ride home

I've been preparing for a 2200 mile trek to Colorado for some time now. Check your coolant hoses thoroughly for any cracks/rot/obvious aging. Check / replace the heater valve behind the passenger side of the head, check your brake lines for damage.

Those are the big things... I'm also tackling all of the sensors and other gremlins at this point but that is a much bigger project.
