The flip-up cigarette lighter is stuck closed on my 99.5 A4. While I don't smoke, I sure would like to plug in my cell phone. It seems like an annoyance to go back to the dealer for this. Has this happened to anyone else? Cause?

My dealer told me not to let my passengers mess with the pop-up cigarette lighter in the 99.5 A4.

Once it's stuck, it's very difficult to pull out. They had about 3 or 4 99.5 A4's who had to bring the car to the dealer and they actually had to remove the entire housing in that lighter area in order to fix the stuck lighter.

Unbelievable.

Anyways, I already unplugged mine and left the piece in the glove box.

Not too long ago someone on A4.Org had a better fix than removing the parts inside the car.

Most of these folks are legit, knowledgeable, and willing to help. My fix worked, it was easy, and I didn't have to tear my console apart to fix it... I have no email address because I use a friend's computer or I would post it...

Thanks for the responses on the stuck lighter problem on my 99.5 2.8Q! The flip-up lighter cover was stuck closed. Apparently the lighter extended itself while closed and prevented the cover from opening. I inserted a .014 feeler guage in the cover's gap toward the rear of the car. The feeler guage allowed the lighter underneath to pass over the little plastic nubs on the inside of the casing, thereby freeing itself. This took about 2 seconds and now I can cancel my dealer appointment! From now on, the lighter goes in the GLOVE COMPARTMENT!
