OK, so I now have a burnt out headlamp (low beam) and I am trying to find a replacement. I "THINK" the car has had the European conversion done, as the bulbs are 90/130W H4s that are a really pretty blue glass... relays added, yada yada yada.

The problem is, I have no idea who makes the bulbs, nor where exactly to find them. I have found plenty of places that want to sell me a full conversion kit, but I cant find bulbs by themselves... so my question to you experts is this: Is this Xenon, Halogen or what? and Where do I find these little buggers?

I am guessing that they are Xenon (I am not sure Halogen comes with blue glass, and the light comes as a refreshingly crisp white) so are these HID? anyway, I need to find a place to order a couple bulbs so I will have spares on hand. Suggestions??

Thanks
Jeff

just a halogen bulb with blue filter coating to mimic HID lights.
True Xenon bulbs mean the bulb is filled with Xenon gas instead of some other Noble gas. The quartz capsule is not tinted blue.

The blue coating actually cuts down on usable light output. Although the bluish white appears brighter.

HID require an electronic ballast pack to fire the HID capsule. Major differences to Halogen lights.

You probably have a standard H4 fitment.

Check this site for bulbs...one of my favorites.<ul><li><a href="http://www.classicgarage.com/classicgarage/index.html">http://www.classicgarage.com/classicgarage/index.html</a</li></ul>

they are worth it and are the next best thing to doing the hid conversion. DONT replace only one.. put a pair in.

Hrmmm... I am gonna have to do some more looking, methinks... The hangup I have (which is the one I have to investigate a little more) is that the previous owner said he had "something" modded with the headlights... I cant remember now if it was an HID mod or Xenon, or what... in any case, he had to replace the housings, and the bulbs are marked 90/130W (I am assuming that is 90W low and 130W high). There are two things placed inline with the lights, and I am not sure if they are merely high amp relays, or ballasts.... but they had to be added to make the lights function.

I started to buy a pair of silverstars last night, but the strongest I could find were marked something like 50/65w, and I was afraid that the existing system I have would push too much current into them... and I didnt want to spend 40 bucks on a pair of lamps just to blow them up when I flicked the switch...

Nevermind... methinks I know what was done now...

The bulbs are high wattage H4s... and the mod was a pair of relays installed in the circuit to provide the voltage necessary for the high draw bulbs...

I am still not sure why he replaced the whole lamp assembly though, but I'll prolly pick up a pair of Silverstars tonight and see how they do...

You need not fear pushing too much current into a 50/65 Watt bulb. It has a higher resistance than the 90/130Watt bulb, so will suck less current.

Ohm's law: I (in Amperes) = E (in Volts) / R (in Ohms)
