The new knob takes more room at the end of the shifter.I have to lower/trim/ or remove the plastic ring at the top of the boot, and assume that trim i can feel under the bottom of the boot pops out, but am not sure if it comes straight out (a friction fit?). Tried moderate force, no luck and I just want avoid breaking any plastic trim.

thanks, in advance.

Got the following from an old post - momo knob fits nicely now!!

1. Unscrew the Audi shift knob
2. Remove the leather boot by pressing the edge by the console either from the back
towards the front or from the rt. (passenger) side towards the left (driver)side, then slide the
whole thing up & off the shift lever.
3. Unscrew the two plastic pieces that grip the shift boot where the shift lever protrudes.

4. On the bottom plastic piece, cut off the plastic tube that protrudes down as close to the
fitting as possible, using either a small saw or hot knife.

5. Discard the top plastic piece.

6. Re-install the shift boot over the shift lever and into the console.

7. Install the Momo shift lever using the proper rubber spacer (don't forget to put the trim ring
on first!), sliding it down all the way to the shift boot. Take care to tighten the three set
screws evenly, but do NOT overtighten.

I did a search of the archives, but I guess I wasn't using the right keywords. Anyway, Thanks Kevan.
