Ok, according to both the Haynes and Bently manuals (especially the Bently one) my 87 5000CS TQ should have two oil filters. One for the engine, one for the turbo. Where the heck is the turbo filter?
According to the drawings in the Bently book, it should be on the same thing the engine filter is on... but there is no place there for a turbo oil filter... am I missing something? Or was the turbo oil filter on turbo cars other than 87??
Thanks

Should only be one oil filter for the 87 TQ, if the Turbo is water cooled.

filters though. Urban myth courtesy of Bentley publishing maybe?
Even if you did have two filters, the oil is shared so what's the point? It's not like it's going through a two-stage filtration system.
Meh, classic German over-engineer the **** out of a problem that doesn't exist.

Probably some other engines too. But in 1986 they changed to the water + oil cooled turbos, and ditched the second filter.

Cool... I was afraid I was losing my mind. The Haynes manual only mentions it as a footnote, saying that "there is a second oil filter on the turbo charged models" and never really went beyond that, and the Bently one (in the exploded diagrams for the Turbo engines) shows two. Someone mentioned that the dual filters were on the Canadian Turbo Diesel motors only, so that makes some sense... but the Diesel pictures in the Bently book dont mention it either... those Wacky Germans!
So that means I am safe, and can return that second filter that I ordered... heh.
Oh, and the air filter change IS a PITA...
Cheers
