View Full Version : Quattrotrac - what tranny did you use to swap to 5spd? - GT Style - 06-30-2005, 11:04 PM I tried searching, but guess I didn't use the right words in the search field.

http://forums.audiworld.com/v8/msgs/57847.phtml</a

Quattrotrac 07-01-2005, 04:39 AM The transmission I used for my conversion was from a 1987 5kq non-turbo w/NF engine (budget reasons). Basically any transmission from a type 44 will bolt up. The best transmission is from the 200q20v. The non-turbo T44 cars, like the 5kq I used have the 4.11 final drive as well as the 200q20v. The others have a 3.89 final drive, so if you use the tranny from a turbo car (again, excluding 200q20v) then get the rear differential to match. It goes without saying...before you even attempt this conversion, you MUST locate a PT code V8 5spd flywheel or the ABH 6spd V8 flywheel. Without this, this conversion cannot be completed. If you wanna go all out...you can use an 01E 6spd transmission too...but you'll have to do some more homework on how to get it to work on the V8. It's a little more involved, but it can be done. Here's a link for some info/results...post if you need clarification.

http://forums.audiworld.com/v8/msgs/44453.phtml</a

- GT Style - 07-01-2005, 06:22 AM Quattrotrac 07-01-2005, 08:26 AM - GT Style - 07-01-2005, 08:39 AM Quattrotrac 07-01-2005, 08:49 AM audiqv8 07-01-2005, 10:52 AM Hardest and expensive part is finding that damned flywheel. Quattrotrac 07-01-2005, 11:38 AM But for around $575 US you can get an aluminum one brand new....dealer wants close to $850 US for a new OEM I think. |
