Hello all,

My 5KTQ died on me last night and refused to start again. Spark is fine but as soon as I start cranking the engine the fuse #13 blows - I've tried to replace the original 15A with 25A and 30A but they get blown as well.

My guess is that the fuel pump needs to be replaced but is there anything else I should test before buying a new pump? Cold start valve maybe?

Thank you,

DON'T keep putting higher current fuses in there. You might burn up your wires.

Fuse 13 supplies power to the Fuel pump, fuel sender, cold start injector and the after run pump.

1) disconnect your after un pump - attemp to start - does fuse blow? Leave disconnected if fuse still blows.
2) disconnect your cold start injector - attempt to start - does fuse blow? Leave disconnected if fuse still blows.
3) disconnect your fuel sender - attempt to start - does fuse blow? Leave disconnected if fuse still blows.
4) disconnect your fuel pump.... yadda yadda yadda...

When the fuse stops blowing you have found your culprit. If it is still blowing then you will have to meter out the disconnected lines and look for a short either between them or to ground. Something is trying to draw a huge current.

Does it blow as soon as the switch is in the run position? Does it blow in the run position with the jumper fuse in the fuel pump relay? Does it blow during the starting attempt? Does it blow after a starting attempt in hot ambient temps?

Good luck.
