I'll fess up... some fat cat in a new Mark IV opened his door hard enough to shake my mint 914/6 just as I was getting into it. When I went over to inspect the damage he took his finger, scraped away some paint he had chipped and said, "It's not that bad, sonny." I replied, this isn't so bad either and proceed to plant my fist in the middle of the hood of his car leaving a sizeable ding... nah, it was big enough to be a dung... you should have seen his face. He left post haste... a simple sorry would have made a big difference.... no? Gee, I feel better already...

2 wrongs dont make a right. im probally gonna get flammed for this but he could have taken you to court for that and if the damage was more on his car than yours you would have to pay up, i.e. your scratch was 300$ to paint but his dent was 600$. just get his licence, plate and insurance and take him to court, remember "when somebody wrongs you dont take the law into your own hand, take em to people's court"

Yes, Was up at Home Depot a few yeas ago and was sitting in my car as my friend ran in to pick up his pay check. Some dumb S@!% pulled into the parking spot in front of me, and there was a shopping cart there; instead of getting out and moving it he just pushed it right in to my fairly new car! I had a surprised look on my face as I could not just believe what happed. He got out and said real sarcastic, "Like you never done that before", like it was my fault! I was dumbstruck and mumbled "no" as he walked into the store. Well surveying the damage there was a 1 inch long dent and in the paint was scratched for about 3 inches. To say I was Mad was a understatement.
So being the 17 year old that I was at the time, I took the cart and slammed it into his Driver door leaving a rather sizeable dent, wrote a little not saying "Now I have"! (I think I would do the same thing if the same situation presented itself)
I still feel that it was his doing and I don't feel the least bit guilty. Retaliation is a good thing just be sure it fits the crime (don't torch the car for a dent) and don't get caught if a little in the grey area, court is ok, but it takes to long and costs you aggravation /time /money being that I was 17 at the time I would not have gotten a fair outcome. He will remember that Forever!
Also some of my friends are dicks and if they see a car in a mostly full parking lot and see a car in 2 spaces, you are going to have something done to it. (Air out of your tires, keyed, chew spit all over it, pee on the door handle, etc.) I guess it comes that no one respects my generation so why should we respect anyone else.
I see it day after day, I have a great personality, dress real nice, make a lot of money at my job (for part-time), go to College full time (Go Blue), and I still have to strive to get respect from most adults.

When I read your posting I thought "AWESOME -- THIS GUY HAS BALLS". You gvae me vicarious satisfaction. The Lincoln guy was a real A-hole, and I agree, a less inflamatory remark on his part would have gone a long way. But, as you know from other postings, it is better to pursue justice through his insurance company. This way, you take the "high road" and nothing can come back to bite you in the @$$.

I just dinged someone this week with a rental car....and I feel bad about it even though it was pretty beat up pick-up truck.
I am always careful when opening my car door and I currently have only one repaired ding on my '97 1.8T. Knock on wood.
Well, I was on a business trip this week and had a rented Monte Carlo. Needless to say I wasn't used to the incredibly long door and the fact that it swings so freely with incremental detents that don't really stop the door. So, when I pulled into the hotel and opened the door for the first time...WHACK! Right into the pick up truck. WHOOPS! At least in this case, the ding was one of many already on the truck. If it were an A4, I would have had to commit suicide! ;-)

- an idiot tries to to parallel park his old Nissan Axxess behind your A4 and despite the fact that he haw ample space, he gives up and being too lazy to back up a little in order to clear my car to leave, he takes a chance and shaves the corner of my rear bumper leaving a number of scratches around 10 inches in length. He subsequently parks 3-4 cars away where there were 2 adjacent empty spots..
- you live in Quebec (no fault insurance)
- his car is so beat up that he probably wouldn't give a rat's ass if you ding his door.
- your personality is such that you don't have a lot in your undercarriage, so to speak..
(And no, I will not take a leak on his doorhandle :))
This happened to me a month back while I was waiting inside my car for someone. Luckily it wasn't as bad as it looked, because many of the (dark coloured) marks were caused by the rubber on his bumper which I was able to get rid of after a lot of wet towel rubbing. Now I'm left with clear coat scratches which aren't all that visible.

First time poster, long time reader.
Okay, this isn't really about retaliation, it is more about how completely oblivious most people are but I think it is a good story and in hindsight it is amusing.
I currently have a 99.5 2.8MQS, but in a prior life I had a '91 Civic CRX Si. My first new car. Oh how I loved that car. There was nothing better than spending an afternoon tooling around winding country roads on a nice sticky set of Yokohamas.
Anyway, the story. So, about fours years ago just before Christmas I was in a mall parking lot (with the CRX). When I parked the car I was well within the lines and seemingly pretty safe. I went into the mall to shop with the other pleasant and incredibly polite members of the Christmas shopping crowd. About an hour later I went back to my car. At this time the spot to my left (driver side) was open but the car in the spot to its left was about 1 foot over the line. My first thought was what an A**. My second thought was "I better get out of here before some idiot tries to get into that spot. I got into my car and before that thought had left my mind I saw an old lady in a Maxima with a damaged front bumper start to pull into the spot. I thought S**T she is going to hit me. Before I was able to stop her, I felt her bump the rear quarter panel right where it meets the door. I couldn't get out. My baby was in pain and I couldn't help. What an agonizing situation. My head slumped forward for just a second as I tried to control myself. At this point I assumed she knew that she hit me. I was wrong. Next thing I feel is the car heave slightly to the right as she tries to wedge herself into the spot (like when you drive those bumper car things and you are trying to rub somebody). It gets worse.... Remember that damaged bumper? Well, that bumper had a chunk of metal of some sort sticking out on the passenger side. So, as I am trying to wave the old bat off, I am listening to the heart wrenching sound of that piece of metal ripping the lower portion of my driver door apart. She manages to get about halfway down the door before she sees me banging my fists on the window and screaming.
So, now she sees me and gets that little scared look on her face (you know what I mean).. Now I try to wave her off. She does start to back out, but when she does she is cranking her wheel even harder so that now she is REALLY digging into the car and if it wasn't good enough that she wasted my door she also wastes the rear quarter panel AND scratches the hell out of the wheel.
Now, I get out of the car. The damage is almost ridiculous. She is sitting in her car in the ailse behind my car. I am almost in tears looking at my poor little angel.
I then walk over to her car expecting to hear, "I'm so sorry here is my insurance infomation." Instead in a mean haggy old lady voice I hear, "Get out of the way I didn't even get near your car." I said, "what the F***? If you are that damn blind can you even see my car?" At this point she repeats her earlier statement. I then walk over to her damaged bumper and scrape about a thimble full of MY paint off of it. I then walk back over to her (NOTE: she has not yet gotten out of her car) and drizzle it on her lap and say "well then what the hell is this?" She says, "okay, so I scratched your car. get over it." NOTE: by now there are about a dozen people standing around that have been attracted by my screams. I reviewed my options at this point... The first option I could think of was to kill her. I quickly disgarded that option given the witnesses (I'm not stupid). I decide to just cool off and call the police.... This was a very unpleasant situation. She did over a thousand dollars in damage. Her insurance paid for all of it.
That is the end of the story. I still can't believe it and can't fault anyone else for not believing it, but this ridiculous story is true.
Sorry for the rambling. I promise not to do it again.

We need LAWS against *disabled* older people!
10-27-1999, 12:02 PM
Good story. But that's bad. I can't believe they let old people out on the streets like that.
I see that all the time. Causing accidents, swerving, hitting people. It just pisses me off that states aren't doing anything about older people and AT LEAST making laws against physical problems as a result of age. Who do you contact in the state to get something done? I don't know.

up their right to drive. It's funny (or not) how you'll hear at least a few times a year how a little old ladies or mans) gas pedal gets stuck and they drive right into a park (or sidewalk) where they mame three little children and kill two others (this is a true story). But still they are allowed to drive without having to take a drivers exam every few years (at least after the age of seventy, please!) Ridiculous.
Feels Grrrrrrrreat!

they should shoot old people

I get so enraged at their disdain for others property. In fact , many, many 35+ yr old women do the same.
There are some really fabulous cars here, but frankly, its like hell on earth trying to protect your car from these evil people.

Living in Florida provides ample time to experince the joys of sharing a highway with the blue hairs. Some of them make for some, ahhh... interesting experiences and the opportunity to enjoys the virtues of the superb handling and braking of an A4. But... if I was going to take a census I can tell you first hand that the absolute worst drivers are the kids in their hopped up rice rockets... when I see a pair of Japomobiles with the big wings and "watch me" graffiti on the body work I move over and get out of the way... I've been driving for pleasure, business, and even some SCCA, local NASCAR, and NHRA for years and I'd rather deal with a Bluehair than an inexperienced punk in a rice rocket any day.

I see that your talking about some of those young asian people that drive those somewhat "too hooked up and wingy" Hondas, but that comment you made sounded a little racist.
Yes, you ring a point of truth but I cannot agree with your comment regarding on how they drive. Personally, I see them all the time and I'd rather drive with a bunch of younger people than me because they drive MUCH better than those elderly people that drive in the fast lane going 10-20MPH slower, swerv into other people and drive into on-coming traffic coming the opposite direction.
Young people, although somewhat inexperienced in driving are MUCH more alert in traffic and quicker with the reflexes.
But that Japo comment can stir up alot of anger here. I'd watch what you say next time.

seems the problem is more rude jerks, and they come in all ages. I was rear ended by a 70 yo gentleman when my baby was 13 days old. He was running late, thinking about things other than his driving, and goofed. He also did right by me getting my car fixed. This was after Boulder's finest refused to respond to the accident (there were no injuries, we don't respond to those). So it was his word against mine, he was a perfect gentleman, and there was no issue. Please feel free to malign Boulder's finest, I do.

What the F*CK is going on. Have we lossed our minds. Of course getting dings S*CKS, but retaliate? Think about this one, your kid pulls the hair of another kid and the other kid punches the teethe out of your kid. Is this what we're condoning. It's just a F*CKING car you idiots. Would you rather be the dinger or the dingee? I'll take my lumps as the dingee and forget about stuping to the dingers level, regardless of age, race, etc. You retaliators should consider a pen and paper and forget about punches, piss, keys, etc.

So, if I understand the tone of the postings, we're all feeling pretty good about namelessly striking out at the supposed person who wronged us. Golly, that's pretty brave - taking out some housewife's valve stems *When She's Not Looking* (excepting the guy who punched out a Continental hood - he took on the car fair and square).
Are you all insane, or is your sense of self-worth so intimately tied to your car that you can't suppress these pyschotic urges?

When in reality I heard a very wise man once say...
"What you permit, you promote."
So, if you do nothing about the problem you are in fact, encouraging the problem to get worse.
I also live by another saying, "confront stupidity". Why? See the previous statement...

I grew up in Melboring, FL and got to deal with more old people driving on a daily basis than most of you will probably see in a month. If you ever wonder who is still buying the great, big, boxy American 4 doors take a trip there!
Believe it or not though...some day you'll be 75 and I can pretty much gaurantee that you'll not want to give up your right to drive. Most old people want to remain independent and not become a burden on their children or others. If they lose the ability to drive and that becomes next to impossible in most places.
That said, it would be nice if they exercised a bit of common sense and stayed off the freeways and any crowded roads during rush hour and just avoided difficult driving conditions in general. I can't understand why retired folks feel the need to be out and about driving during the most congested and stressful times of day.
Drives me up the wall when they putter along on a 2 lane highway holding me up for (what seems like at least) hours! Yeah...you're retired, no **** you don't have to be anywhere, but I need to get to work!
Unbelievably Wiser than you

Two wrongs make a right, commit a crime to prevent a crime, stoop to the level of the dinger, jeopardize your life attempting to get back at someone, and basically act like a child. I hear you loud and clear. I suggest a bib and diapers would help you, but certainly not the keys to a car.
