I have a 98.5 A4QA 2.8. It has been a great car and I will probably purchase it off the lease. The dealer has been using Castrol 20W50. I live in Charlotte, NC. The car has 29K miles. Can I switch to Mobil 1 (or other synthetic) at this point? Or is it too late? Thanks for the help.

want to switch to a lighter weight. BMW recommends the lighter 10-30/10-40 type since they cause less deposits. I also have been running the ligher weight oils in my cars since BMW has recommended it. I have not had any problems - my 87 Jeep 4.0l had 150k miles when I sold it and did not burn any oil. I did change the oil every 2.5k though.
