I have a German built 2.8 quattro (brand new) here in the UK.
I am convinced that I can feel the engine "missing" when I accelerate up the gears. It really only is a very slight sensation, and doesn't detract from the performance really. But it takes a bit of the overall pleasure away.
I haven't managed to get anyone at the dealers where I bought it to notice this sensation, so there is nothing anyone can do about it.
Any of you people out there experienced this, or is it a quirk of this particular engine??
Cheers
Tim
It may be the knock sensor backing off the timing -- try different / better fuel or an additive to boost octane.

When we first got our A4 2.8 we had the same sensation of "misfiring". We were using 93 octane gas. Once the engine had about 4-5000 miles on it, it really smoothed out. We've had no problems since.

Quite a noticeable dip in power around, as I recall, 4000 RPM. Just as I mentioned it to a co-worker about to buy an A4, it went away...well, not quite ALL the way away, but it's barely noticeable now. Engine break-in seems to have alleviated the issue. It's been several thousand miles since I've worried about it (or, really, noticed it.)
If you look at the torque curves for the 2.8 at www.chip-tuning.com (Wettrauer), you'll see it.

There's still a VERY, VERY SLIGHT hesitation
where there used to be a major drop in power.

Not sure I'd even notice it, except that it was so annoying beforehand.
Don't know whether to be worried or relieved......!!
