i have a K40 detector, and i want to wire it to the fuse box. I read the FAQ, but it's for a Valentine 1 radar, and it says to use the direct power adapter. I don't have one of those. So can i just run it directly to a fuse, or do i need any other modifications?
thanks

You have to find out for your present 12V adapter that comes with the detector, what voltage it is supplying to the detector. On Valentine it is 12V; my old Uniden as I remember was either 6 or 9V. if it takes 12V it's a direct wiring omnnection if not you ned a transformer. I bought one of those aftermarket universal power transformers which are switchable for anything between 1.5 and 9V, switchd it to the appropriate output power, and connected it between the fuse panel and the detector.

Also check on the detector jack as which is the plus and minus power point; somtimes the center contact is positive, somtimes negative. All depends on what the detector manufacturer chooses.

If none of this makes sense, find someone who has worked on auto electrial systems.
