so i got my axle exposed finally so i can mess with it and the old boot cut off, now im wondering how does one go about taking the bearings apart so i can slide my new boot on?, i noticed its splined so do i just hit it really hard with a rubber mallet or is there a clip or something i need to undo, hopefully i get my other comp going here soon i have my bently cd registered to it.

It is held in with a circular spring. That spring is a real PITA to open to remove the key.

Probably a two beer job.
