The basics: 99 and later Merc's use an optical data system for their CD changers. The one from a dealer is about $950 installed. Clair Parts Express has Mercedes stuff, but I'd bet you're only talking 20-30% discount.

THE ONLY other company that makes the optical system, D2B, changers is BECKER. You can check them out at www.beckerautosound.com . You can buy them for $420 at www.continentalimports.com . Then buy the Mercedes bracket for the car (comes with a little Mercedes insignia on the soft flap) from either your dealer at $80 or maybe from Clair (maybe 20% less).

The Becker unit is smaller than the bracket, so you (or a stereo shop) has to rig up a way to mount it in the bracket (not too hard). Mount the bracket in the car using the factory mounting spots. Then connect it, and voila.

Any questions, email me so we don't bother the A4 group...
