I went t0 my dealer today to schedule my first service. Already 5000 miles. It is kind of like a child.. you don't want to see her grow up..

Thanks to the advice off all the experts on this site, I told the dealer I wished to switch to synthetic oil. He told me that the car should have been shipped from the factory with sythetic oil.

Is this true or just a lot of BS... and should I use the dealer oil or bring my own?

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

Paul

I know that they are shipped from the factory with treated oil to help with break in, but never heard it's synthetic. What synthetic does your dealer use, and do they charge extra for it? If they charge, you can probably get it cheaper at Walmart.

I am not sure all dealers however use synthetic as a standard. To be sure, I take in my own
mobil 1 and have them put that in. As I understand it, the audi oil is some kind of break in oil - at
least that is what it said in the FAQ. Synthetic in turbos is not a problem, in fact it is better than
normal oil, due to the heat. Porsche runs mobil one in every street turbo straight from the factory.

I'm about to bring my car in for the 5k service and was going to switch to synthetic. I noticed Walmart had the lowest prices on Mobil 1. Question: is that stuff "fresh" or has it been on the shelves forever? Also is there such a thing as "fresh" oil? Oil newbie =)

The new one says reformulated tri synthetic or something like that on it.
