Trying to get a handle on the performance of my 87 5kCSTQ. I'm asking for a non-clutch dumping start, but floored in 1st.

my car gets to redline before hitting max boost in first. It's still 8-9psi away from peak when i shift.....

In first gear I can redline it (only gear I can redline at WOT without the damn pump cutting out) and my gauge hits just beyond 15psi.

Every other gear I hit 18 psi around 3000 and I have to modulate the boost with the accelerator pedal, as the pump will cut out around 19 to 21 psi, depending.

Hmmm...I can't figure out why my boost doesn't build earlier. Shift into second and I don't hit max boost until 4500rpm or so. I've replaced intake boot, t-hose, michelin man, WOT switch, injectors, plugs, wires, cap/rotor, 3" cat back exhaust, fuel pump, accumulator, check valve, ISV, and various other parts. K26 turbo was rebuilt recently too. I even clamped the wastegate to se if I was getting wastegate creep but that just makes the max boost a little higher and hit a little later.

What's next up? MFTS? Warm up regulator? I'm running out of ideas.

Hey Nick! Can you take me for a ride one day so I can compare performance? I'll buy ya a beer at the Roadhouse!

You got it! Just don't **** your pants in my passenger seat!

If we get together some day in the daylight I can take a closer look under the hood and help you out.

but clamping the WG shouldn't have that effect on your boost. it should lower it and give you more. Better check out your WG frequency valve and ALL of your vac lines. Could have a vac leak. It sucks i know, but it must be done. Individually replace every line.....

When I'm in 3rd gear and mash the pedal I see 1.9 and hit the fuel cut out violently so that means 1.95 for sure.

The factory gauge reacts very slowly.. this is well documented. When I run straight boost to the WG... ie wide open shrapnel knobben... I can actually see 2.3bar before the ECU recognises that the boost has exceeded the 1.95 bar and tells the fuel pump to cut out. Just a time lag thing I think.

My car is stock except for a 272 cam and it will hit max boost(7psi on a mechanical VDO guage) at about 2800 RPM or so. It jumps to 5 psi pretty quick then creeps just a little to 7psi. It seems to me that must be the spring releasing and the freq. valve taking over. Between quick shifts it only takes maybe a half second, if that, to get back to 7 psi. I don't have the bov installed yet either. I do have a stealth felt turbo wrap kit on the turbo and dp, which seems to help in the lag department(after the turbo gets hot that is). Your issue sounds like a boost leak to me. I had the same type of problem before rebuilding the top end. During the rebuild I replaced almost all of the hoses and she's tight now. Good luck;)
