View Full Version : Help ! Engine ticking driving me crazy Audi200T5000S 08-19-2004, 10:30 AM 1986 5000 Put in new lifters, car has good oil pressure. STILL TICKS Any suggestions, thanks rooster 2 08-19-2004, 10:35 AM its great stuff, available from auto parts stores, though can be hard to find. I highly recommend it, my Audi mechanic does too. skiddmark 08-19-2004, 11:01 AM tonyj 08-19-2004, 11:10 AM gets quiet or goes away wneh warm it is probably exhaust manifold related. Stripped stud or four toward back. or bad gasket or cracked manifold. mechaman 08-19-2004, 07:57 PM I have seen 'Sea Foam' at THORNTON'S gas stations, you might find some there. Try a truck stop if you're near to one as well, they have stuff like that. Audi200T5000S 08-20-2004, 07:47 AM Will this stuff work if there is a problem with the exhaust manifold or gasket? Is this Sea Foam about the same thing as Marvel Mystery Oil? Would this be a way to determime if it is the lifters still ticking or the manifold? Thanks for the help rooster 2 08-20-2004, 10:44 AM it will do nothing to fix an exhaust manifold or gasket leak. Sea Foam will clean up sticking of valves that can clatter when you add it to the crankcase oil. If you are not sure if you have exhaust manifold noise or valve clatter noise, take your car to someone who can "hear" the difference. It will sound different. With someone with a "trained ear", they will quickly be able to tell you what is making the noise. By the way, if the noise seems to becoming from the rear of the engine near the firewall, then I would suspect a broken exhaust manifold stud or manifold gasket. Engines always seem to leak exhaust there first. ........Rooster |
