Hi
could somebody shed some light on the procedure for changing the thermostat ?
The position looks a little ugly .

1.Allen key or torx ?(size ?)
2.What needs to come out ?
3.What brand is OK ?

Thanks
John

1. torx
2. see the following link, Although it is for the ABZ engine it is similar to the 90 V8.
3. The one that will fit.

Why are you changing the thermostat??

ABZ engine

Hi
I'm changing it because the temperature does not seem to go above 60C when it's very cold ,like now.I'm still not sure of the procedure though.
It's in an ugly spot.
Need to find out what has to come off if anyone knows for sure.
How do you remove the top (black) plastic hose holder ?
Do I have to remove the ISV valve ?
thanks
John

Look at the link again. The thermostat is located at the 'V' of the engine see the following link. The outlet cover is held by two torx screws. Drain the antifreeze, (look on the right side, passenger side, throught the lower grill. There should be a blue color knob, turn the knob counter clockwise and this will drain the radiator. Remove the top radiator hose. located the thermostat housing and look for the two torx screws, remove the housing and you will see the thermostat. Remove the thermostat and replace with a new one making sure that the air bleeder hole is pointing up. Reassemble in reverse order with new thermostat and gasket. Add antifreeze and bleed the system of any air.

V8 thermostat

Thanks for the instructions.I did locate the thermostat even without a diagram ,no problem but I am not sure about how to remove the plastic holder for the top radiator hose and also the ISV valve is in the way.I do not want to break the uppper hose holder and it's not held by a screw like the A8 .
thanks
John
