View Full Version : anyone done a comparison between the S4 and the PESed 2.8 yet? david (in Seattle) 10-26-1999, 12:20 PM bob 10-26-1999, 12:53 PM Curious 10-26-1999, 12:58 PM nt mywheels 10-26-1999, 01:06 PM I had a PES on my 2.8. And I LOVED it, it is a very well designed system given that PES is limited to working within the confines of an already produced vehicle. Noisy? That is a matter of interpretation and most of us would agree that it does introduce some noise to the car. Some like the tone, others do not. But to say that the system is illegal is just silliness or bait. I've driven the S4 and can make direct comparisons of the S car and the PES car. You make no mention of your basis for this statement of yours. Instead of attacking, try constructive criticism. Actually I've been working on a ton of different things and getting pulled in at least as many directions. One thing I'd like to do is write a FAQ for body kits, considerations, costs, and other concerns. I field a lot of questions about that subject. mywheels 10-26-1999, 02:30 PM bob 10-26-1999, 02:50 PM fred 10-26-1999, 02:53 PM it hasnt met the criteria to be 50 state smog legal. just because most people havent had an issue getting it registered or through state inspections, doesnt make it legal. just ask PES about this... david (in Seattle) 10-26-1999, 03:41 PM Mark Collett 10-26-1999, 05:09 PM mywheels 10-26-1999, 07:24 PM I've had some hateful email correspondence with a guy named Bob _____. I don't kow if it was you or not, I apologize in advance if it wasn't you. But I also think you could be more of a gentleman and post your email so that we could talk off the forum as well as on. I'm a nice guy (just ask me) to put mine out there, will you? mywheels 10-26-1999, 07:35 PM Things may have changed and my information is about a month or so old... My understanding is that the PES system is not illegal. It is not certified by CARB. That is different, splitting hairs here. In fact, my last information was that PES was well into the submission process for CARB/EPA certification. These things take time since there are forms and strict procedures to follow. Not to mention, hanve you ever seen a speedy governmental agency? So technically, the PES system would not be approved by CARB for street use. This doesn't mean that you can't use it on the street. You can, and you can take the car in for emissions testing. Furthermore, it is my understanding, that nearly all PES cars run well within the normal tolerances of factory. In fact, the PES software is so good that it deviates from the baseline even less than most factory cars. You could call Tony at PES and he could give you the numbers - it is really quite fascinating and he is happy to share the information. Yeah, I suppose you could say that "Tony runs the company and could be biased". True, fact is though that Tony is a stronger critic of the sortware running within spec than what the government would require. Why is that? I don't know, but from my discussions with Tony I'd say that he is driven to exceed expectations. |
