If i decide to trade in my car... (89, Audi 100, AT, all options, sans leather, 180k mi) in nearly excellent condition(no repairs needed except slipping reverse gear) ...what could i expect to get in $$? Kelly Blue book says ~$1200. :( Isn't this sad?
Anyone traded their old Audi? Was it a real rip-off?

I wish I hadnt have traded my 86 in:( it had over $3000 dollars worth of work in it (from PO). I got $350 trade in. But good luck. You would probably be better off selling it.

you will get virtually nothing for the car. Even if it sounds like you are getting a better price it is built into the price of the new vehicle.

That true, the price will be built into the final price. Even though the dealer will say for example they are going to give you $2500 for the car, they will not give you any discount to the manufacture suggested retail price (MSRP). Go to a dealer and talk about pricing without a trade-in and see the discounts, now ask them what they will give you for a trade-in and it will almost be the same price. Unless it is a car less than 5 years old most dealer really don't want to deal with it.
