After getting my Hamann wheels mounted, the tuner told me that they installed some CEC wheels on the new generation Jetta this morning. Being the curious person that I am, I took a drive (down the street) to look at the redesign.
Well once arriving, the salesperson (who spoted my A4) was overly joyed to enlighten me that I could have gotten an "A4" for 18K (New Jetta). Of course I had to correct the man on his misinformation... the New Jetta's chassis is called "A4"... not based on the Audi with the same name. Being that this situation occured, I can see New Jetta owners all over the planet claiming they have an A4 and that the Audi A4 is just a overpriced Jetta.
Thoughts on the redesigned Jetta... well... it looks like a bloated Toyota Tercel. The front grill is thrusted forward like the Dodge Stratus (not as dramatic though). I was totally unimpressed with the look of this car. It's shorter that the previous generation and is very cheap looking. Two thumbs down for VolksWagon.
The dealership is VolksWagon of Fremont. The Jetta is Navy Blue and it's the only one they have on the lot... so far.
-Dantley

The new Jetta is built on the VW/Audi A4 [platform, but it has little in common with the Audi A4. VW/Audi has two competing forms of nomenclature. The Golf IV, Jetta, New Beetle, Audi A3 and Audi TT are all models based on the fourth generation "A" platform; henc e the name A4. The Audi A4, A6 and VW Passat are B5 platform cars. So... the A3 is an A4 but the A4 is not an A4.
I haven't had this much fun since they made the brakes bigger on my 1991 Coupe. The 14" wheels fom an Audi 90 would fit the '90 Coupe but not the '91 Coupe. Try to keep a mail order tire store straight on the differnence between a 90 Audi and an Audi 90.

VW seems to be preety flawless with a good reputation. i saw the new Jettas today and i loved it. I am going to wait for the VR6 to come out and get one. Then ill sit back relaxed trouble free. From what i have heard from all the owners of Audi A4's, the cars have to many problems. Look through the forum. I think ill go safe than sorry.
sammy
