17" get a bit harsh.
I don't know what the roads are like where you live? Here in Michigan they can get pretty bad...
My 2 cents...

The larger diameter rims allow for some cool brake upgrades. Check out bira.org for info on replacements for the UFOs. If you're going to shell out the bucks for rims, you might as well get something that could handle the brakes.

http://www.bira.org</a

They also have the correct 45 mm offset, and you could run 215 wide tires with them.

Any wheel specialist can refinish your 15" wheel, all you do is give your rim to the wheel shop, and they'll send it off to get cleaned up and re-straightened. It's significantly cheaper to refinish the wheel than to upgrade, but the car will handle a lot better with anything higher than 15". My 18" rims don't give me any ride problems, and the car corners amazingly. The only thing I am worried about are potholes, you have to be extra careful with rims this size.
Depending on what your after if you upgrade to a higher wheel size (i.e ride vs performance vs look etc), 16 or 17" is a good size for general driving.
Why did I choose 18" rims??? I've had one too many Integras challenge me on the freeway, and it gets annoying after awhile....these rims generally tell em I've got something under the hood, so they don't bother losing. ;)

You're full of it; not only do the larger wheels pose as a flat-out challenge to any and all, but you're surely aware of this as well! Ever since I put 17x8.5's on my 200 20v, every ricer and Cavalier/LeBaron driving dip**** within fifty miles seems to find me and pull up alongside, revving their engine and wanting to race... needless to say, putting these clowns in their place is hardly good for my gas mileage... :)
