My 1989 100Quattro needs a wheel bearing and a CV-boot (the CV-joint is not giving that clunking noise even though all the grease is emptied). Train-like noise is pretty loud, so wheel bearing must be bad.

I found a 1991 100 automatic in a junk yard, mechanically in good condition. Should I take out the whole strut+spindle+CV shaft axle from that 1991 100 automatic and put into mt 1989 100 quattro ? Please advice, thanks.

You might as well. Since it's easier to take out the axle with the ball joint unbolted, you might as well take off the tie rod ends, and the bolts on top of the strut tower and take the whole thing.

By the way, where is that junkyard that you're talking about?

Pressing that bearing out and the new one in is a PITA!

While you're swapping the whole thing out, be sure to replace your upper strut mounts and struts.

Wanted to let you know before you went and bought the whole shooting match.

Wilson,

I emailed you twice, you never answered me.
Please send email. You promised to teach me the timing belt job.

Thanks.

Oh! Crap, perhaps I should read. I didn't realize the donor was coming from an Auto.

Yes, I can verify that the axles are different.

That's why. My school account has been weird because I've been getting so much junk mail that I requested some filters which doesn't allow anyone other than those in a certain list to send me mail.
