I am in the process of buying an '89 200 quattro from a good friend of mine. I know this car has been well maintained. In fact I know the mechnic who has been working on it though the ACC and thinks it's the best example of a 200 he knows of. The car has about 85,000 miles. This will be my 4th Audi, so I'm pretty familiar with Audi's in general.

The one real problem the car has is that the power locks stop working on occasion. My friend deals with this by power cylcing lock control module. If fact he's rigged up a little switch to allow him to cut the power without pulling the fuse to do so. Is this a common problem....does anyone have an idea to the cause of it? Should I be looking for a new control module in the junk yard? Thanks!

I've never heard of "rebooting" the power lock pump. This may be the problem, or you may have a vacuum leak somewhere too. THe pumps aren't that expensive and I'm sure at least 5 people right now are selling one somewhere on the internet.

I'd personally replace the pump before I'd "rig" something up like that.

Fortunately he didn't hack anything to put that "reset" switch in. He made up a swtich with an inline fuse and two spade connectors on the ends of the wiring. He then just plugged it into the fuse holder....pretty elegent for a hack. Considering he also had a '91 200 Quattro Avant, a A3 VW Golf, a Subaru WRX, and a '95 VW Passat VR6; I don't think he wanted to spend much time or money hunting it down!

I like the Vacuum leak theory now that you meantion it!
