I'm a complete novice when it comes to cars, so please excuse my ignorance --
I have a '98 A4 QTip ... and when I completely "floor" the gas pedal, the tach needle goes way past the 6000+ rpm red line, and off the meter (past 8000 rpm) and stays there for what seems like an eternity before shifting (note this is not in Tiptronic mode). I've also thought that even in the Tip mode, at first gear, the rev limiter would prevent me from exceeding the redline but it doesn't shift automatically either... Is this normal? And am I harming the car with each excursion past 6000+ rpm?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
'Lo

... the 1.8T engine can sustain trips to the 6600 mark without problems. However, beyond 7000rpm you'll run into trouble. Also, the Tiptronic unit (depending on which version of the ZF unit you have) may or may not upshift. My Tiptronic unit (before modification) didn't have a rev limiter, didn't upshift automatically in Tiptronic, and didn't have an anti-stall logic system in Tiptronic. However, in automatic mode, it shouldn't go past 6600 rpm with the pedal to the floor.
Cameron
