Does anyone know if $250-$300 is a good price for a well rebuilt power steering rack?
The car is '86 Audi 5k.
How many hours to install if done by a good mechanic?

I bought one for about $175.00 from an online store WWW.MEGAPARTS.com I had it put in by a mechanic friend of mine, he made me swear that I would never do anyhting to him like that again. But it is in, and no problems. I guess you will have to find a shop that will do it. Some foreign autyo place, and NOT a dealer. The bigest thing that you have to remember is that you have to use the special mineral oil (CHF), and not regular power steering fluid. Good Luck.

I think Johnny-cat is right. You have to find one who would willing to do the job. I think my mechanic charge me for 4 hours. He did that in less than 2 hours. The price for a rebuilt rack is around $200 and it should last for the rest time of your 86 5k.
