I read a thread somewhere on this site a while ago that discussed this problem. I am trying to troubleshoot substantial power loss on 1990 V8. It just doesn't have the power it used to and it slightly surges under constant accleeration at all RPM's, though most noticable around 2,500. I have checked the compression, Around 200 PSI across the board. I replaced all spark plugs, and they all looked decent. I also have a slightly low reading when idling hot - around "1" (whatever that is). I am not very familiar with fixing newer cars (I have old motorcycles and a 1961 Fiat-a type of motor cycle really) and so am not familiar with what would be causing this. Perhaps bad catalytic converters or PCI valve??

sorry, I have a slightly low oil pressure reading- around "1" - minimum allowable is "2"

The surging is usually caused by a old O2 sensor. I have noted best results from installing a newer Bosch 4 wire sensor. A weak fuel pressure regulator can also cause a minor surge.
