how are those N/A eurolights working out? Did the tape job you did on the reflectors work out OK?

The chrome tape patch job (rice boy racer tape) is doing fine, and has not peeled at all. For those who want to know, I found a set of 5K NA euros for cheap since the reflector buckets were rusty and wasted. Ground down the rust and applied one inch wide strips of the of the aforementioned chrome tape to the buckets. Works great and is cheaper than $80 per bucket for the reflectors. The difference between the DOTs and Euros is very nice. I'm using the stock 55/60 H4's without relays, and the cutoff is wonderful. I understand now why people rave about Euro lights, they work great. Now to put the turbo eurolights in the sedan (along with the Blau harness)... -Steve Jensen 87 5kcstq (stock crappy DOT junk lights) 87 5kcstqw (NA euros cutting through the darkness) SteveAngry 09-17-2001, 09:32 PM How hard was it to pry the glass part away from the reflector side? I assume you had to do this to retape the reflector? What did you use to do it with and what kind of sealant did you use when you put everything back together? I need to remove the glass and clean the inside lense due to "fogging" of the lense caused by water infiltration let go by the PO... Thanks! Steve Ankney 88 5000 Michigan SteveJ_in_TX 09-18-2001, 12:11 PM But the euros have replaceable glass lenses which are held in place by clamps. If you have euros on your car, pull the light and gently pry the clamps off with a small screwdriver. Full access to the reflectors and the interior surround trim. I did run a bead of RTV around the outside of the gasket for insurance (lens sits on rubber gasket, gasket sits on plastic bucket. RTV around edge of lens/gasket). If you have DOTs, pull the light and remove the bulb. Swish the glass cleaner of your choice around the inside, rinse and blow dry fully. If that doesn't work, then its off to the boneyard for a replacement. Are you running the turbos or the normally aspirated (trapezoidal) headlights? -Steve Jensen 87 5kcstq 87 5kcstqw SteveAngry 09-19-2001, 12:10 AM I was hoping that it was possible to seperate the housing from the lense... I am using the crappy DOT N/A headlights as of right now. Looking for a drivers side replacement one if you know of any for cheap($30 range)in any of the junkyards around your area? I would like to eventually get a set of DOT turbo lights and grille because I think they look better than the N/A headlights. Then maybe move on to a nice set of euro's when I can afford it. However I really don't feel like spending $600+ on my current car for headlights. I think I'll save that headlight money and get euro's when I get my turbo quattro...someday. Anyways, I'll give the glass cleaner swish idea a try and see how it goes. Thanks again! I haven't tried it yet, but he seemed to know. |
