I have an 87 5000S that i've replaced the controller on with a known good unit but it still only blows air out of the defroster vents no matter what setting I put it on. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks!

Are all of your fans operational? I'm not sure about this but i had the impression that there are two different fans, one for the defroster vents and one for all front vents.
You may have a not working fan.

I had the same problem, don't recall that I ever solved it. It is important to remeber that defrost is the default position in the event of failure.

I still have that problem. I was my vacuum tubes. Too expensive for me to repair though. But I'd check the vacuum hoses first behind the glove box. There's one flap which is controlled by the vacuum unit and if there's no vacuum there, the flap moves to the default defrost position because it's pulled by a spring.

The arm on the motor moves the bowden cable, which in turn moves the flaps. If the cable is seized, that could be the problem.
