The driver's door power window switches for two windows have stopped working on my '85 5000S. I would like to clean the switches with electrical contact cleaner.
My question is: How do you remove the assembly on the door that holds the window switches? Will it pry up and out or do you need to remove the door panel?

Thanks,

Tom

be gentle and it will pop out. Then all you need to do is disconnect the wiring harness on the backside and you will then be able to pop out the switches themselves...

Better to remove the panel if you have time.....An '85 door panel is very brittle. I cracked mine.

BTW....If you do crack it, Black ABS plumbing cement works great!!!

the whole door panel just to get the power switch assembly out IMHO. You're just adding extra work for yourself! My panel assembly prys out with barely any effort(even with silicone seal). Maybe yours is a little harder to get out? Thats possible...

I do agree with you that those panels are somewhat brittle. I don't think taking the panel out is going to break anything anymore than pulling the whole door panel off. I've seen way more broken clips on the bottom of those door panels then cracks at the switch assembly housing...

Anyways, Not trying to get into a war of words with ya, this is just my opinion. OK:)

I broke mine prying it out. Just didn't want to see that happen to Targa!! BTW, my panels were also broken around the clips. ABS cement is still holding though.

Thanks for the comments guys. When I try to pry it up, it moves about an 1/8 inch and stops. Feels like there are clips inside which need to be squeezed from behind to release. Maybe I will need to remove the door panel. Just to make sure we are talking about the same item, this is the bracket on the driver's door which has the four power window levers and the two power window toggel switches.

on each narrow side of the Power Window/Mirror assembly. Yours must be in there real tight as mine hardly hold the assembly in place anymore...

By the way, yes we are talking about the same thing...
