This is in regard to my '91 20020v qt.
I am getting a dull, repetitive clunking sound under load, as well as a hiccup from time to time at around 4000 rpm, off throttle to medium throttle. The latter is accompanied by a repetitive tapping sound, a bit more metallic than the other...almost rattling. The car hesitates during the rattling. Both sounds seem to be coming from the center/rear.
Last week I had the fuel filter and O2 sensor replaced, as well as a major tune-up(plugs/wires), .
The center load bearing tends to go bad on these cars, and I think that it is partly to blame for the annoying noises I have been hearing during load situations. The mechanic checked it out while the car was up, and said that the driveshaft rattled when he tried to wiggle it in his hands.
1) Would a tired driveshaft be the culprit for the more metallic sound/hesitation under part throttle?
2) Is the driveshaft and related parts interchangeable between the 20020v and the UrS4/6?
3) Can the driveshaft be lubricated? The mechanic said that he could not see any "zerk fittings"(sp?).
TIA,
