I had the car in for a tune-up and a few other items including replacement of the distributor rotor. Well, if you've read the tip on SJM's site, you know that the Bosch catalogue has the wrong one listed for our car. Scott provides the correct number. I happened to catch this right before they installed the wrong one, which, according to Mockry, could have caused a bent rod.
I just think its great that a guy would take the time to write up and post so much valuable info with the Audi community.
If you haven't visited his site, here it is:

what rod are we talking about?
The only other "rods" I know of are: tie-rods, connecting rods, and of course hot-rod! :)

Having been on the quattro list for some time now (not really an old-timer, some have been on it for the 10 years it's been in existence), I remember when a Q lister by the name of Sargent (Sarge) Schutt punched a rod through the side of the block in his 3B engined '91 200q20v. Yes, it was modified with a chip and more. Cause was determined to be leaky seals on a worn turbo, this caused the intake charge to pre-ignite (at fairly high boost) and the engine went kablooey.
However, prior to his engine expiring, he and others posted about (sometimes violent) crossfiring at high RPMs, and the best post I have found is at

Anybody priced a 3B engine lately? Many $$$$$.
Remember, the 3B was only offered in the states one year, and many parts counter guys have never been around or heard of one. Go to Chris Miller's very comprehensive site by doing a Google search on C1J1Miller@aol.com, he's put together a great site detailing the nuances and differences of the '91 200q with the 20v engine
For my money, if the engine costs that much to fix/replace, I'm not skimping on it. My 10v engines are happy with synthetic oil, factory oil filters and factory spec Bosch ignition pieces. And that's one of the benefits of enthusiast boards like these, learning through the (sometimes tragic)experiences of others.

Hi guys, what's the best way to up the power on my 1991 Audi 100 Avant quattro turbo? It has the MC engine with 2 knock sensors (165 PS). I would like power n the region of 200 PS as in 1B 200 quattro. Any suggestions?
