View Full Version : 5000S Avant Headliner Repair RobF 07-24-2001, 05:36 AM The headliner on my 5000S Avant is falling down from the rear of the car. Does anyone have any Tips on the repair including adhesives used? The headline is in very good conditions. Thanks XC_Rider 07-27-2001, 09:12 PM I tried to use a spray glue specifically made for glueing fabric to foam, which was what my headliner was made of...fabric stuck on a foam mold. It was EXPENSIVE and made by 3M. It smelled awful too. It worked for about three days. The problem was the foam was dried out and flaking, so no matter how much you glue it, it just falls off again as the glue rips off more foam. I lived with the droopy headliner for a year only being held up with thumbtacks. Then one day, it hit me. Why not use needles?!?!? Needles with tiny head like the ones that come with new dress shirts. Got a box of them and stuck them all over the place. Works like a charm. You can barely see the needle heads and if you do notice, it has a cool industrial look to them. I spaced them out evenly so it looks like its supposed to be that way. I tried the same technique in my dad's '90 200T, but the headliner is attached to a hard backing and the needles won't poke through it :( oh well. Only the part between the rear window and the sunroof hump is drooping for now. I hope it doesnt get any worse. |
