I made the mistake of originally posting this on a weekend, when no one was around. Sorry for the waste of space, but here goes:

I checked the archives, but didn't see too much there.

I've got a clunking noise from the rear of the car going over small bumps (i.e., manhole covers, expansion joints in highways). The noise is kind of a tha-THUNK.
I thought maybe it was just me (my GF describes me as a car hypochondriac) but I took her Civic for a drive today and was amazed at how smooth it seemed compared to my A4. Much less noise and clunkiness over the same kind of bumps.
Part of the noise may be caused by the fact that I'm running wider tires than stock (225/45/17), but it shouldn't make that much of a difference should it?
Actually, the kicker is that I had my dealer look at this at my 20K service. The report was that the mechanic took it for a drive and heard the noise. The problem was diagnosed as--and I don't get this-- running too much PSI in the rear tires (I've got them at 36, as recommended).
Anyway, I'm not running with less PSI than that for fear of bending the rims. I think this noise has got to be some problem with the suspension. Anyone have any ideas? I'm pretty clueless about this stuff myself, but I'd like to have some idea of what might be going on before I take it back to the dealer.
