Yesterday was a bad day for my new A4. I was wondering if anybody else has experienced some of these minor problems. Also, any suggested fixes would be appreciated.

(1) First, I proceed to plug my Valentine 1 into the cigarette socket. Unfortunately, however, the lighter socket does not spring open (in other words, it's permanantly retracted) -- it's apparently stuck. What the F???

(2) Second, I attempt to play a CD on my factory Bose. Message I get is "Error" -- So I re-load the CD's and re-try. Now the message is "LOADING" but nothing happened. Finally, the CD's began to play, but this never happened before (and yes, for those of you wondering, I DID load the CD's correctly each time).

(3) Although the trunck was securly closed, the display on the Dash indicated that it wasn't. Again, what the F?!!! I re-close, and everything seems OK. Until later, when opening the locks with the remote key, the trunk lock made a "popping" sound, and the lock popped out a little bit. I don't recally the trunk behaving this way previuously. Something appears to be sticking here.

Love my car but these thnigs are really annoying me.

If the lighter is not fully seated into the socket when the assembly is closed the lighter will move slightly towards the rear of the car, thus locking the assembly closed. If you are handy at all you can use a thin knife blade or rigid piece of plastice to move the lighter forward so that the assembly will open. If the process turns out to be too much of a pain the dealer can do it for you.

Problem #1:
Take to the dealer & have them preform the TSB related to this problem. Visit http://tech.vw.com

Problem #2:
Are they Cd-R disks? I have heard about this in the past. If not, the dealer will replace the changer unit.

Problem #3:
Sounds like the sensor for the trunk is bad. The popping noise is normal. This happens because you try to open it when it was locked. The next time that you use the keyless entry, the lock resets which causes a popping noise.

Sounds like you will have togo to the dealer.

Not the best news, but at least there is a solution to your problems.

Requires disassembling console and filing off center three of five small bumps that are molded into the back, vertical face of the lighter storage pocket. IMPORTANT: if you try a DIY fix, be sure to leave two outside bumps intact. They keep the lid from closing too far, but don't interfere if the lighter isn't seated quite properly.

I've experienced the stuck lighter situation twice now on my 99.5 A4. The best tool to use to open the lighter door is a feeler guage. The kind you use to adjust valves, etc. It's thin and flexible enough to fit in the small opening and strong enough to re-seat the lighter. Works like a champ!
