I am confused. Ok, even more confused than normal. I have checked the archives relating to handsfree with Startac. I have concluded two things.
1) There was a company/branch of Audi called Cellular Integration which used to make handsfree for the Startac but they are now bankrupt.
2) Several people were attempting their own integration but I am unclear on the final verdict of 'yes it can be done and it works well' vs 'yes it can be done but it does not work well/no it can not be done'
Can someone please clarify this for me? My company is offering to purchase the handsfree kit for me but I do not know if it will be any use.
Thank you.
TGB 1999 1.8T qMS (Currently in Stage F.. Woohoo!)

1) There was a company/branch of Audi called Cellular Integration which used to make handsfree for the Startac but they are now bankrupt.
Not exactly. From what I understand Cellular Integration was one A4.org reader that started a side business modifying existing car kits to work in the A4. He stopped because it was not fun anymore, not because he went bankrupt. He advertised a kit for a motorola flip phone, but not for a Startac as far as I know.
2) Several people were attempting their own integration but I am unclear on the final verdict of 'yes it can be done and it works well' vs 'yes it can be done but it does not work well/no it can not be done'
Yes, it can be done. I have done it. How well it works depends on what you are expecting it to do. Does my kit turn your startac into a permanant looking mounted phone w/ cradle dialing and other wizbang features? No. Does it allow you to put the phone down, talk outloud into the existing microphone and built-in speaker? Yes.
Anyone with electronics knowledge can figure out how to do it themselves. Everything you need to know is in the faq. The performance of most commercial handsfree products out there today will not impress you.
Good luck. Email me if you would like more information on what I have done.
David
