View Full Version : Grinding when going into 3rd gear? I know I'm doing it right on my 99.5...

Last night I was taking my girlfriend to this club. We came upon a stop light on a street which merged up ahead. I took off fairly quickly (not drag racing or anything) in order to make it in. I got through the second gear, disengaged the clutch and I grinded going into third gear. I was almost positive I did it correctly, but played it off as maybe I just simply missed a shift. However, further down the street, under normal acceleration, it did it again! I know I didn't miss the shift that time. I read on this board that someone had their entire transmission replaced because of this problem on a 99.5 - any thoughts?

I don't fully depress it, and I've never had any problems. Is this the case with all cars, just the A4, or what? Does it say to do so in the manual, or is it something that everybody just knows and somehow has escaped me?

Thanks,
Mark
