as some of you may know there's been little to no info concerning a turbo timer install which would still allow one to arm the car with the remote fob ala factory alarm system. well ... mine's done. :) my a4 is the second one installed by custom car alarm in concord california. installation took approx 2-2.5 hours for $130. it's weird after getting used to sitting in the car for cool down. you walk away seeing the dash still lit and hearing the muffled sounds of the stereo.
the install: due to my lack of knowledge about car eletronics i couldnt ask any specific questions. here's the litte bit of info i could coax from michael, the installer. he wasn't too eager to share his hard won knoweledge. :(
the concept is simple. fool the factory alarm in thinking the engine is off thereby allowing you to arm the car via remote fob. the implementation is a different story. i was told the first installation took about 5hours. 4hours to locate all the relevant connections and another hour or so to install the timer itself.
fooling the factory alarm requires rewiring / bypassing one fuse. michael was vague and only told me that the fuse in question, while there, is labeled "vacant" in the fuse chart of the owner's manual. the only one matching this description is fuse #8(circled). the other vacant fuses are either correctly labeled or are for the avant, cold weather package or auto tranny. the rest of the process should be similar to other timer installs.

picture of the turbo timer in boost guage mode. it's the green/yellow bar of light between the lower and right spoke of the steering wheel. the digital display is easily legible with a quick glance even while driving. the display turns an audi red when in turbo timer mode and beeps every second of the count down. this model features an additional 'automatic' timer mode. it knows how you've been driving via the integrated boost guage and times the shutdown appropriately(at least that's how i think it knows). click to enlarge the out of focus pic.

pictures of the mount. i used the hard plastic version of velcro to mount it. click to enlarge

this installation was done on a 99.5 1.8t quattro, manual, sport, sedan with everything except phone and cold weather package.
