I know it is Friday the 13th but I did it anyway. I installed my new Blizzak's mounted on 15" Borbet Type "E" that I got from the Tire Rack. I used the supplied bolts and all went well. At least I thought it all went well. When all done I started the car and it won't move forward or reverse. IT WON'T MOVE AT ALL.
I replaced all the new bolts with the factory 5 spoke bolts and now the car runs fine. I will contact the Tire Rack for shorter bolts ASAP. My question is what did I damage by tightening down the bolts that were too long?? Any ideas? Please give me your thoughts.
Roy M 2.8q Tip (With new winter shoes)

Sounds like the bolts stuck thru the inner part of the hub flange and caught against some suspension part, thereby locking the hubs/wheels. If you didn't try any severe moving or rocking of the car with engine power, prob. are OK. If you did damage something, I would guess that the bolts would have been difficult to walk out due to damaging the thread or bending of the bolts. I haven't had the A4 wheels off to see what the bolts might have contacted, so can't give you any more info. I am assuming car drives OK with no funny noises or different suspension feel (i.e, pull to one side, more wheel vibrations, etc). Might be a good idea to put on old wheels/tires since you are familiar with their feel.
You might have another problem, though, and that is incompatibility between the OE bolt mounting face (cupped area that fits against the wheel face) and your Borbets. I am assuming they gave you new bolts because the bolt seating area on the Borbets are different than on your stock wheels. Different wheels use different designs - spherical (I think that's Audi's practice), elliptical, conical, flat - you name it. Would HIGHLY recommend removing a stock bolt and look at the seating surface in comparison with the Borbet bolts - or else finding out from Borbet if the OE bolts are compatible with the wheels.
That was pretty funny, I have images in my head of Ferris Bueller spinning the tires with an A4 on jacks...

Ray I have use the orginal spherical bolts on the conical seat Borbets till I get the new bolts from the Tire Rack. All drives ok but I will not use the car much till the new bolts arrive. Thanks for your answer.
Roy M 2.8q Tip
