I used to have a hesitation problem just when the car was moving, now it has progressed to a misfire at idle. This morning I checked the POS's by disconnecting the injectors and everytime the idle worsened, so I moved on to plugs. When I got the cover off, I noticed that a few of the boots had oil on them, leading me to think that the plugs had backed out, which they had. I re-torqued them to 22 ft. lbs and started the car up, and it was still misfiring. I am looking for other ideas to what it could be, and looking for cheap things to try first, unfortunately there are few things that can be done "cheap" with these cars. I am thinking of replacing the fuel filter and plugs at the moment and looking for other ideas as what to replace that wouldnt put that big of a dent in the wallet. Thanks in advance.

is linked in my sig below.

Sounds like your cam cover gasket may have failed allowing oil from inside the cam cover galley into the sparkplug wells, causing a deterioration of the rubber coil to plug "boots". Replace the gasket, replace the boots and replace the plugs (F5DP0R Bosch) while you are there.

Otherwise, your symptoms did sound like a dead POS.

Boots are under $5 each at FAP99

It was really helpful, thanks for that. Thats how I found out how to check the pos, so I looked through more of the FAQ and found out about the cam gasket and the oily boots, so I was just looking for some helpful insight. Thanks for the help Dave.

You want the cam cover gasket set, complete with the five round gaskets that seal oil out of the sparkplug wells.

See the link below<ul><li><a href="http://www.fap99.com/epcvsoapimc.epc?cookieID=21A0UXE5H21A0UXPNJ&amp;drilli d=8&amp;subcatid=800988@@Cylinder+Head&amp;clientid=fap99">Link to FAP99 page with the cam cover gasket set (at the top of the page)</a></li></ul>
