At freeway speeds I am getting wind noise coming from the driver's window, upper-rear edge. This is a '00 A4. Anyone else experience this?

Really noticeable once the weather gets a little colder and the seals shrink a bit....very annoying especially on windy days or driving over 80 mph.

The upper door frame is adjustable but you need to remove the inner door panel to gain access to the four torx bolts that allow for the adjustment. I've had mine apart once already and did a really small adjustment which helped but hasn't eliminated the problem. I'll try again once I have some more time.

Saw a message from somebody on this forum a few months ago that described putting a split clear plastic hose inside the black plastic area just next to the driver side mirror where the window goes up and that solved the problem. Obviously an air leak. I have had it since my 96 was brand new and it has been the only thing other than the noise my car makes when going down a hill on engine braking that has made me mad at my car.

Haven't tried the trick myself as I was worried it might smash down the built in sealent stuff myself, but FWIW...

I was the one who posted the wind noise fix, available here in the FAQ. It has worked perfectly for me for a year now.

?? re your worry about squashing down sealent. What sealent? Take another look at the fix - all it does is fit over a piece of metal.

Aren't you suggesting it fits inside the channel? There is a fuzzy kind of "weatherstripping" material already in there to seal off the wind (obviously it doesn't work) and I was worried that over time it would get even more compressed and then the leak would be worse.

Has your fix remained in place with no problems with shifting or coming out with the window all the way down?

From your description, it doesn't sound like your noise is coming from the area around the mirror. Try closing the door with a dollar bill over the door frame. Then pull on the dollar bill. It should be snug, but shouldn't tear the bill. Try this at several places. If you find a place where the bill pulls out easily, then you probably need to have your window frame adjusted. I have sent e-mail to several people explaining how to do this, but I haven't gotten around to writing a FAQ.

In my case, the wind noise was only a problem in a crosswind. On a calm day, I had no excessive wind noise at speeds upt to 100 mph. But when the wind was blowing in excess of about 15 mph, I'd start to experience wind noise around 50 mph.

Let me know if you need more info. Maybe I'll get off my a** and write that FAQ.
