View Full Version : Front inner CV Joint 'stuck'...

I have STFA knowing that there is tons of information on CV R&R, but couldn't find anything related...

I removed the 6 bolts holding the front inner passenger side CV joint. The metal flange that the rubber boot is clamped to is free to move around, however, the joint won't pull away from the trans. I have done this before on a 100 series, but it was an automatic and I'm pretty sure it was a different style joint. I tapped on, what I think is the actual CV joint, with a piece of wood and rubber mallet, but it didn't budge. Is it possible this thing is just fused with rust or am I missing something else? I figure if enough water got in this thing to rust then my joint would be bad and it isn't.

I was really hoping to remove the shaft without messing with the suspension, but at this point I'm about ready to put the 6 bolts back, and try to change the outer boot with the shaft in the car.

Keep working it, it will let loose. This is the CV joint on the driveshaft, but its pretty much the same as the inner joint on the wheel axels.

Did and outer boot with shaft on car recently.

Getting the outer CV off can be difficult. Somtimes it will come off with a sharp blow from a BFH. On my 5KTQ I had to get in there with a small screwdriver and pry the snap ring out a little before it would come off - a three handed operation.

Good luck.
