View Full Version : How can I improve handling without ..... Roadhound 05-19-2006, 10:04 PM sacraficing comfort. My 1995 S6 is a daily driver in Western PA, not the smoothest roads. Thanks for your help ThetaTau87 05-20-2006, 04:59 AM IMO the compromise of ride comfort vs handling is excellent in my car with Eibach springs and Bilstien sport struts. It also gives the car a lower stance that gets rid of the 4x4 look. I live in SE MI so the roads are probably as bad or worse here. She wanted something with a bit more firmness so I installed Bilstein HDs and a set of beefier sway bars. She did not want to go any lower than stock heigth for ease of mind while going over speed bumps and driveway curbs. The result was a marked improvement to feel, turn-in, and sportiness. You could do something similar with the Bilstein HDs, a 28mm front bar from the S6+ or Avant, and of course the HRSB. It just takes a while to get the HRSB. Thanks silbergti 05-20-2006, 09:33 AM it stands for Happersized Rear Sway Bar, Happersized= Hap Maguire sized = really big, over the top, overkill (j/k) Take a look at all the beautiful work Hap has done to his car and you should understand the reference. urS4guy 05-20-2006, 09:43 AM Here you go. captmagu@aol.com Hap, wit dakine addy not from Evahboost, Maguire Mr.FRU-T-Pants 05-20-2006, 11:50 AM closed loop 05-20-2006, 02:03 PM Upping the front sway bar size without changing or added rear roll stiffness will increase the understeer gradient of the vehicle and thus decrease handling performance. The biggest change in handling you can make is in tire, as it is the only thing touching the ground. I suggest a high performance tire and then decrease the tire pressure by 2 psi until you get the ride you want. Don't go too low, as this is Explorer dangerous. I currently run 32psi all around. I also agree that shocks will make a big difference especailly since you may have older shocks on your car. They do not last forever. Start with a set of Bilstein HD's and a good set of HP tires and then think about sway bars, but I would start with upping the rear bar. |
